The important test for cancer is considered to be Biopsy. In most of the cases, the healthcare professionals would need to do biopsy for certainty and cancer. The biopsy is known to be a procedure in which your doctor will remove a sample of the abnormal tissue. The tissue would be checked under the microscope and runs the other tests on cells in your sample

The Blood tests for the cancer fall into the 4 general categories:

  • Complete blood count (CBC)
  • Circulating Tumor Cell Tests
  • Tumor Markers
  • Blood Protein Testing

Most of the blood tests will not be used to diagnose your cancer. But it would provide clues that would lead the health care team to make any diagnosis. For diagnosis of cancer, the procedure to also remove any sample of cells for the testing of the blood sample.

Blood Tests - In some of the centers you would have a day or two before the treatment. It is also important that the chemotherapy nurse checks for the red blood cell (RBC), the white blood cell (WBC) and the platelet count before the treatment. If the RBC is way too low, you could need a blood transfusion.
