Granulocytes express CD15, which can also be found in acute myeloid leukaemias and malignant lymphomas. Classical Hodgkin lymphoma Reed-Sternberg cells are often CD15 and CD30 positive.

The CD15 Test: What Is It?

The CD15 antibody recognises the human myelomonocytic cells' CD15 antigen. To determine the concentration of CD 15 antigen in the blood, the CD 15 test is carried out on a sample of the patient's blood. Granulocytes express CD15, which can be found in acute myeloid leukaemias and malignant lymphomas. Additionally, Reed-Sternberg cells and a few epithelial cells exhibit CD15. It functions as a mediator between chemotaxis, bactericidal action, and phagocytosis. CD15 antibodies serve as a diagnostic indicator for Hodgkin's disease.

Preparation for the CD15 test

The CD 15 test can be taken without any extra preparation. It would be best o inform the doctor of any drugs, underlying medical issues, or allergies you may have before having the CD 15 test because it needs you to give blood samples. An immunohistochemistry technique performs the CD 15 test on a blood sample drawn from the patient's vein. If you exhibit signs like swollen lymph nodes, sporadic fevers, or unexplained weight loss, a doctor will request the test. Mention any infections you may have, especially in youngsters, as they commonly cause swollen lymph nodes.

CD15 Test Applications

It aids in the phenotyping of lymphomas and leukaemias. It serves as a diagnostic indicator for Hodgkin's lymphoma or Hodgkin's disease. This test involves the stain's technical execution; a pathologist is not interpreting the results. Based on the sample demonstrating the proper immunoreactivity to the CD 15 antigens, the positive and negative controls are applied. To determine how well the patient responds to the meds, tests are carried out while the patient is receiving treatment. X-rays, sound waves, and magnetic fields are then used in imaging studies to determine the stage (extent) of Hodgkin lymphoma.

How to Perform the CD15 Test?

On blood samples, the CD 15 test is performed using the immunohistochemistry method. The test involves attaching antibodies, particularly to antigens in biological tissues, to image antigens selectivtselectivelyctions of tissue cells. Your arm is wrapped with a rubber band by the doctor to make the veins stand out. The blood is then drawn into a chilled vial using a needle. The recommended specimen for the test is a tissue block that has been formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded (FFPE). Next, the specimen ID and labelling are written down and carefully matched with the block and slide identifiers.
