AFP (Alfa-Fetoprotein) is a type of protein that is produced by the liver at the time of regeneration (Growth and division) of the cells. The level of AFP fluctuates, the fetus and patients with pregnancy, liver-related issues, and tumors normally have a high level of AFP. 

AFP (Alpha fetoprotein) tumor marker test measures the AFP level in the blood. Many conditions increase the AFP level, so it aids in the diagnosis of the problem. But it is mainly used to diagnose specific type of cancers such as cirrhosis of the liver, testicle cancer, ovaries cancer, etc because tumor increases the level of Alfa Fetoprotein in the blood.
