What is Coagulation Profile test?

Coagulation tests assess how well and how quickly your blood clots. To check if you have a clotting factor issue that could result in either an excessively little or massive blood clot. The tests listed below are included in the coagulation test profile:

Bleeding Time (BT): This examination measures how quickly the tiny blood vessels in your skin cease bleeding and seal. In comparison to other blood tests, it is carried out differently. On your upper arm, a blood pressure cuff will be applied and inflated. On your lower arm, your doctor will make a few very small cuts. Most of the time, the cuts will feel like scratches and won't be that deep.

Platelet Count (PC): The quantity of platelets in your blood is determined by a platelet count test. Thrombocytopenia refers to a platelet count that is below normal. Following a cut or other bleeding-related incident, this condition may cause you to bleed excessively. Thrombocytosis refers to an elevated platelet count compared to normal.

Prothrombin time (PT or PT-INR): Your liver also makes the protein thrombin. The prothrombin time (PT) test evaluates how quickly and effectively your blood clots. Normally, it takes between 25 and 30 seconds. If you use blood thinners, it can take longer. Malabsorption, liver illness, and haemophilia are additional causes of incorrect results. Additionally, it's helpful for keeping track of those who use clotting-related drugs like warfarin (Coumadin).

Clotting Time (CT): It's used to measure how long it takes for your blood to clot and stop bleeding. The majority of people never get this examination, but it is helpful for those who are dealing with a situation where bleeding, even from a little cut, does not cease.

Why it is done?

To determine if you have a problem with any of your clotting factors that could result in either too little or too much blood clotting, a coagulation factor test is used.
