A hemoglobin test determines the amount of haemoglobin in your blood. Hemoglobin is a protein found in red blood cells. It transports oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body, where it is utilised. If your hemoglobin levels are out of whack, you may have a blood disease.

This test is frequently used to check for anaemia, which occurs when your body does not have enough red blood cells. When you have anaemia, the cells in your body do not get enough oxygen and thus do not function properly. A total blood count includes haemoglobin tests (CBC).
