PET Scan

A PET Scan is the most powerful tool to evaluate patients with cancer.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan is an advanced imaging technique that is used to produce images of tissues and organs. It is used to analyse the metabolic activities of the tissues in the body. The procedure of PET scan involves the use of a radioactive tracer injected into the patients in a very small amount via blood vessels.

PET scan is used to diagnose health conditions such as cancer (oral cancer, breast cancerlung cancerthyroid cancer, throat cancer,  prostate cancer, and many more); heart problems (Coronary arteries disease, heart attack); brain disorders (epilepsy, brain tumor, Alzheimer, etc.). The importance of PET scan in Oncology Clinical research data has proven that PET Scan is superior to conventional imaging in the diagnosis and determining the stages of cancer.

  • This is different from MRI and CT scans. These tests show the anatomical landmarks and blood flow to and from organs.
  • Machines that combine the PET and CT images, called PET/CT, are commonly used.
