A health screening test is a medical test or procedure carried out on a population or population subgroup who are asymptomatic to determine their propensity to have a specific disease. However, many other screening tests are frequently used, such as thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) for congenital hypothyroidism in newborns, cholesterol level for heart disease, urine drug screen for illicit drug use, or blood pressure for hypertension. • A good screening test has many qualities.
• Disorders that are common in the community and cause a lot of morbidity and mortality make suitable candidates for screening.
• Treatment must dramatically lower morbidity and mortality compared to waiting until symptoms appear during the disease's asymptomatic phase.
• Examples include congenital hypothyroidism and cervical carcinoma. Contrarily, the benefit of early diagnosis prevented the use of chest x-rays as a screening test for lung cancer from being continued.
• The screening test should be as sensitive (few false-negative results) and specific as possible (few false-positive results). The perfect screening test would detect every patient with the disease and make no false diagnoses while being 100% sensitive and 100% specific.

The screening test should also be affordable, accessible, secure, and straightforward. Several of the screening tests used now are not ideal. Ask anyone who has undergone a colonoscopy to detect colon cancer or a low-dose helical CT scan for the detection of lung cancer. These examinations are pricy, cumbersome, and not widely accessible.
