Etiology
This virus is an RNA virus of the flavivirus genus and is closely related to the viruses that cause West Nile, St. Louis, and Japanese encephalitis.
Pathophysiology
The incubation period is 3-6 days. Once infected, the virus can spread rapidly to multiple organs in the body. The liver is the main organ affected by yellow fever. Causes severe jaundice due to liver damage.
Treatment / administration
Yellow fever is a reportable infectious disease. Symptoms appear 3 to 6 days after being infected with the virus. There is no specific treatment, but extensive supportive care and hydration are necessary in severe instances.
