What is an X-ray Sacrum AP/LAT Test?

The sacrum lateral view shows the most backward part of the spine from the side. The Sacrum anteroposterior (AP) view shows the Sacrum and how it connects to other bones.

Why is it done? 

• The sacrum anteroposterior (AP) view can look for damage or see if the sacrum and/or sacroiliac joints have deteriorated.

• The Sacrum (lateral view) Test helps to see what's wrong with the Sacrum and coccyx and looks into the cause of both short-term and long-term pain in those areas. This projection is often used with the AP projection.

What is the Sacrum (AP Lateral View) Radiograph Test Procedure?

How does one prepare for the test? 

• Wear loose-fitting clothing. No preparation is needed.
• If you are pregnant, notify your technician, as radiation may harm the baby.
