This imaging exam provides your doctor with a visual representation of the structure of your lower back.

Why is it done? 

• Find the reason for your long-lasting lower back discomfort.

• Check for spinal fractures (vertebrae).

• To diagnose spine tumors, arthritis, osteoporosis, or infections.

• To detect possible disc issues such as spondylolisthesis or disc degeneration.

How does one prepare for the test? 

• Notify your technician if you are pregnant, as radiation may harm the baby if not disclosed to the sonography technician. 

• You should wear loose-fitting clothing.

• Before the X-ray, you might be asked to go to the bathroom and empty your bladder.
