What is an X-ray Right Scapula AP View Test?

An X-ray of the scapula (shoulder blade) visualizes the shoulder blade and the surrounding soft tissues (skin and muscles). The scapula is a bone with a triangular shape that connects the collarbone to the upper arm bone and chest wall.

Why is it done? 

• To diagnose any scapula (shoulder blade) fractures and monitor the healing of the fractured bone after it has been set.

• To diagnose any suspected infection, osteoporosis, deformities, or abnormal bone growth.

• To diagnose winged scapula (a condition in which the shoulder blade protrudes from the back).

• Wear loose-fitting clothing. No preparation is needed.
• If you are pregnant, notify your technician, as radiation may harm the baby.
