What is an X-ray Pelvis AP View Test?

An X-ray of the pelvis is used to see the hip bones, the top part of the thigh bone (called the proximal femur), the hip joint, and the skin and muscles.

Why is it done? 

This test helps find any broken pelvic bones, like the hip bone and the top part of the thigh bone, and checks how the broken bone is healing after it has been set. It also helps find infections, osteoporosis, deformities, or abnormal growth of the bones in this area. It can also help find arthritis, sacroiliitis, hip dislocations, and ankylosing spondylitis.

How does one prepare for the test? 

• Wear loose-fitting clothing. No preparation is needed.
• If you are pregnant, notify your technician, as radiation may harm the baby.
