What is an X-ray Neck AP LAT View Test?

X-ray Neck AP LAT View Test is used to determine the existence of a cervical fracture after head and neck trauma. It is used to determine the source of back or neck discomfort. In an Anterior-Posterior (AP) projection, X-rays flow from the patient's front to their back. The lateral view is obtained from the patient's side.

Why is it done? 

• To diagnose neck injuries, numbness, discomfort, and arm weakness.
• To identify fractures, dislocations, and windpipe swelling.
• For diagnosis of (bone thinning) osteoporosis, neck bone tumor/cyst, neck disc and joint damage (cervical spondylosis) 
• To determine spinal abnormalities, vocal cord enlargement (croup), epiglottitis, tonsillitis, adenoids, and foreign object obstruction in the throat.

How does one prepare for the test? 

• Wear loose-fitting clothing. No preparation is needed.
• If you are pregnant, notify your technician, as radiation may harm the baby.
