What is an X-ray Maxilla AP & LAT View Test?

An X-ray of the maxilla (upper jaw) shows the two maxillary bones. The middle third of the face comprises the two maxillary bones on either side of the face. They meet in the middle of the forehead.

Why is it done? 

• To find out if the maxillary sinuses are infected or have inflammation (sinusitis)

• To find out if you have advanced periodontal disease or other problems with your jaw or teeth.

• To check the maxillary bones for any possible injury or break.

• For figuring out what kind of abnormal growth (tumor) might be in the maxillary area.

How does one prepare for the test? 

• Wear loose-fitting clothing. No preparation is needed.
• If you are pregnant, notify your technician, as radiation may harm the baby.
