What is an X-ray Lumbar Spine Flexion Test?

This examination uses X-rays to produce images of the lumbar spine's five vertebrae. This examination aims to identify whether the spine is unstable in spondylolisthesis. This condition causes lower back pain. The patient is instructed to lean back from the lower back for the flexion view.

Why is it done? 

• To diagnose spinal cancers, arthritis, osteoporosis, and infections

• To detect future disc problems, such as spondylolisthesis or disc degeneration.

• To look for abnormalities in the curvature of the spine, such as lordosis, kyphosis, scoliosis, and birth defects.

• Determine the cause of the persistent lower back pain.

What is the procedure for the lumbar spine flex radiograph test?

The X-Ray technician will explain. 

How does one prepare for the test? 

• Wear loose-fitting clothing. Before the X-ray, you might be asked to go to the bathroom and empty your bladder.
• If you are pregnant, notify your technician, as radiation may harm the baby.
