Antero-posterior (AP) cervical spine projection is known to be a part of the cervical spine series.

Lateral View: This projection aids in visualizing any pathology that involves the entire cervical spine. i.e.- orthogonal to AP view

Indications

AP: This projection aids in visualizing the pathology that is related to the C3-C7 in the anatomical position, thus, demonstrating the following:

  1. Any sort of compression fractures

Flexion/extension: In this, the x-ray views usually detect the ligamentous lesions that are undetectable by the standard static views.

These specialized x-rays are also taken to prevent missing any damage that has made the cervical spine unstable.
