What is an X-ray Caldwell View Test?

The X-ray of the Caldwell view of the skull is a test to visualize the paranasal sinuses, namely the frontal sinus and the surrounding soft tissues (skin and muscles).

The doctor prescribes this test to detect a nasal sinus's chronic inflammation and evaluate any blockage in the sinus region.

Why is it done? 

• To determine the presence of persistent frontal sinusitis (inflammation of a nasal sinus)
• To identify osteoma (localized tumor) in the sinus region
• To examine any obstruction in the sinus region.

How does one prepare for the test? 

• No preparation is needed.
• If you are pregnant, notify your technician, as radiation may harm the baby.
