Collect 24-hour or random urine collection. Specimen must be collected in a plastic container. Refrigeration of urine alone, during and after collection, preserves specimens adequately, if tested within 14 days of collection.
Manganese chloride is added to the sample of the urine and subjected to summarize.
Urine manganese is used in conjunction with plasma manganese to evaluate possible toxicity or deficiency of manganese, an essential mineral.
The patient should avoid taking either gadolinium or iodine containing contrast media for at least 4 days.
