Ultrasound Post-void residual (PVR) residual measurement is a way to figure out how much urine is still in the bladder after someone has gone to the bathroom. 

Why is it done? 

Bladder ultrasound and Post-Void Residual (PVR) are done on people who have trouble holding their urine (inability to empty the bladder). 

A patient with a significant post-void residual urine volume may have a urinary tract infection, renal failure, or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Drugs or diseases like diabetes, multiple sclerosis, or Parkinson's can also cause it.

If you have signs of urine retention, your doctor may suggest a PVR test. There are several causes of urinary retention, including:

• Urinary Tract Blockage
• Side effects of drugs
• Neural bladder

Not completely emptying your bladder might cause symptoms such as

• Urination often.
• Bladder stones.
• Kidney harm.
