Your Widal test has been the mainstay of the typhoid fever diagnosis for many decades. It is also used in measuring the agglutinating antibodies against any H and O antigens of the S typhi. Neither any sensitive nor specific in nature, the Widal test would no longer be acceptable clinical method
With a particular cutoff titer of about ≥200 for the O agglutinin or the ≥100 for any H agglutinin, Widal test would also diagnose correctly about 74% of blood culture-positive cases of the typhoid fever. However, in case of 14% of positive results, if it is would be false-positive, and 10% of the negative results would be false-negative.
Any symptoms of the typhoid fever that would usually develop about 1 or 2 weeks after the person becomes quite infected with Salmonella typhi bacteria.
