D-Dimer is a particle of protein that is produced when the blood clots break down. The body automatically breaks down the blood clots after the recovery. But when the blood clots don’t dissolve even after the healing/ recovery, it leads to blood clotting disorders such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), and disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), etc. which is dangerous.
D-Dimer Quantitative test is used to confirm whether a blood clot is present even after recovery and whether the patient has a blood clot disorder.
The normal and low value of D-Dimer specifies that you are healthy.
The high value of D-Dimer in the blood specifies that you may have a blood clot disorder.
D-Dimer quantitative test is ordered in case of suspected blood clot disorder and symptoms such as tenderness, swollen legs, cough, breathing difficulty, prompt heartbeat, chest pain, etc.
