Phospholipase A2 Receptor Antibody (PLA2R) Quantitative - Book Test at Low Cost

This test confirms the investigation of membranous nephropathy (IMN).

The test is done with the help of Time-resolved fluoroimmunoassay(TRFIA).

Why is this test done?

This test is done to detect and confirm the investigation of Membranous nephropathy. It helps in the proper treatment of the patient.

Primary Membranous Nephropathy (PMN):

It is a condition marked by elevated levels of proteins in the urine of the patient. It is an inherited disease of the kidney. This disorder leads to nephrotic syndrome.

The kidney is a cleaning organ of the body when the immune response starts attacking the membranes of this organ, which are used to filter blood.

The kidney has a filter known as glomeruli which have three layers:

Glomerular Membrane:

• It makes a sandwich between two layers of cells

Podocytes:

• Present outside the blood vessel.

Endothelial cell:

• Present inside the blood vessel

In case any of the above layers is destructed:

It will result in the stoppage of the functioning of the kidneys. It will lead to high protein content excretion in urine.

Who is more Affected?

• People older than 40
• Any underlying medical condition
• It belongs to a group with a high incidence of this disease.

Causes:

This disease is caused by Antibody known as the Phospholipase A2 receptor. In this condition, the antibody produced by the body does not attack the infection; instead, it attacks the podocytes. The leakage of proteins is also seen in the urine.

Other causes are:

• Hepatitis B
• Cancer
• Autoimmune disorders
• Malaria

Symptoms seen are:

• High cholesterol
• Proteinuria
• Gain of Weight
• Edema
• Tiredness
• Increased blood pressure

Diagnosis of Membranous Nephropathy:

• Check the GFR
• Blood test
• Urine Test
• Kidney Biopsy
• Antibody Assay

Treatment:

• Diuretics
• Low salt diet
• Cholesterol Lowering Medication
• Angiotensin Converting medicines
• Immunosuppressive therapy

Procedure :

A urine sample is required.

• The initial 2-3 drops should be discarded.
• There should be an absence of solids in the model.
