Peripheral Blood Smear (P/S)

The peripheral smear test analyses the blood components. The smear checks for parasites, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Unexplained jaundice, anemia, unknown fever, and severe infections require a blood smear.

A decrease in RBC size may indicate anemia, whereas an increase in WBC count may indicate infection.

Unusually large or irregularly shaped blood cells indicate a routine blood smear. Anomalies in cell shape, size, and number are considered abnormal.
