Parietal Cell Antibody, IFA In Dilutions

The parietal cell antibody or Parietal Cell Antibody IFA In Dilutions test is used to diagnose pernicious anaemia, which is the most frequent cause of vitamin B12 deficiency in the population.

This test is used to determine whether a patient has pernicious anaemia or an immune-mediated shortage of Vitamin B-12, either alone or in combination with megaloblastic anaemia. Individuals with gastric atrophy who do not have pernicious anaemia may also have antibodies against parietal cells.

Why done? 

Parietal cell antibodies are identified in 70–90% of pernicious anaemia patients, 50% of gastric atrophy patients without pernicious anaemia, and up to 15% of the general adult population. This test can detect Pernicious anaemia or immune-mediated vitamin B12 deficiency with or without Megaloblastic anaemia.

Procedure

You'll have blood extracted from an arm vein. 

How does one prepare for the test? 

The test requires 12 hours of fasting that you should only drink water and not eat or drink anything else.
