Pregnancy Associated Plasma Protein-A (PAPP-A)

The Pregnancy-Associated Plasma Protein-A (PAPP-A) test determines the amount of PAPP-A secreted by the placenta during pregnancy. A low PAPP-A level may suggest an increased risk of genetic abnormalities in the fetus. This test assists in determining the risk of acquiring aneuploidies, such as trisomy 21 and down syndrome, in the developing baby during the first and second trimesters of pregnancy.

The PAPP-A test analyses PAPP-A levels in the blood. PAPP-A is an enzyme that binds to zinc, and it is utilized in prenatal screening and atherosclerosis.
