Oxcarbazepine Metabolite Test Cost & Proccedure

This test is used to manage epileptic patients. This monitors the anti-epileptic therapy.

Epilepsy:

It is a neurological disease in which the brain becomes abnormally active. It causes seizures and loss of consciousness.

Symptoms:

Oxcarbazepine:

It is an anti-epileptic drug. It aids in curing seizures and epilepsy. Initially, this medicine causes vomiting, confusion and anorexia. The tonic-clonic and partial seizures are treated with this medicine. Nerve impulses are decreased, and pain is ultimately lowered. It is a drug prescribed by doctors and is not given without a prescription.

Convulsions:

This is a condition in which involuntary muscle contractions are seen. Abnormal shaking and limb movement is seen. Epilepsy attacks are also seen. Convulsions and seizures are not similar.

Why is this test done?

This drug is used alone, not with other anticonvulsants. The monitoring of this drug is done by testing LFT, renal function test and electrolytes.

Requirements before the test:

• Meals are to be skipped 10 hours before the test.
• The morning dose of this drug is to be cut before the collection of blood samples
• Alcohol is also prohibited before the test for 24 hours.
• For women, it is advised, if menstruating, to inform the doctor beforehand.

Procedure:

• This requires a blood sample.
• The needle is pricked, and blood is withdrawn.
• This sample is then put in a tube. It is then kept for 30 minutes for clotting
• Now centrifuge for 15 minutes. Then freeze it in the refrigerator.
