Nocardia Stain Test Cost & Procedure

This test is used in labs for the identification of Nocardia bacteria which is responsible for nocardiosis. Acid-fast staining of sample defects certain bacteria.

What is Nocardia?

Nocardia is a gram-positive bacteria that is -

This bacteria is slow at pace as compared to other bacteria. It can also be detected by biopsy and as pirates of the sample. Smears are formed and cultured to establish the results.

The procedure of this test-(for blood sample)

The following steps take place-

• A band is tied around the arm.
• The needle is sloinsertederte,d and blared is withdrawn
• This is now sent to the lab for further investigation.

In the case of sputum-

• You will have to take a breath and hold it for a few minutes.
• Now you need to breathe out.
• Now cough to get the sputum out.
• Collect the sputum into the cup and cover it.
• Transport it to the lab or store it in a freezer.

Treatment-

• Patients are advised to take antibiotics for six months.
• The physician may suggest surgery to drain out the pus and abscess.
