What is MRI Brain Epilepsy Protocol?
MRI Brain Epilepsy Protocol is a group of MRI sequences which are put together to enhance sensitivity and specificity in detecting possible structural abnormalities that cause seizure disorders (e.g. mesial temporal sclerosis and malformation of cortical development).
Why done?
An epilepsy protocol MRI is done in patients who have first-onset seizures. This test helps in identifying the lesion and earlier understanding of epilepsy surgery, especially patients who suffers from focal-onset seizures.
Procedure
During the test, you will lie flat on the MRI table, a device called coil will be placed around your head and slid into the MRI machine. Several pictures of your brain will be taken by a technician.
How does one prepare for test?
Before the test, you should inform your doctor if you are allergic to anything, pregnant, or any recent surgeries. Also, let your doctor know if you have any metal implants in your body.
