What is MR Spectroscopy with Contrast?
MR Spectroscopy with Contrast is a test that shows different chemical peaks of a presumed brain tumor. It is used to determine tumor type and aggressiveness and differentiate between tumor relapse and radiation necrosis.
Why done?
Through MR Spectroscopy with Contrast, doctors compare the chemical composition of normal brain tissue with abnormal tumor tissue. It is also done to detect tissue changes in stroke and epilepsy.
Procedure
You will be made to lie on a flat surface and will be injected with an IV through which contrast dye (gadolinium) will be passed into your arm. This will enhance the images of any tumor or lesion if present.
How does one prepare for test?
You need to observe fasting as instructed by the technologist before the test. You should inform your doctor beforehand if you had any surgery, metal implants or other metals in your body.
