MR Spectroscopy with Contrast is a test that shows different chemical peaks of a presumed brain tumor. It is used to determine tumor type and aggressiveness and differentiate between tumor relapse and radiation necrosis.
Through MR Spectroscopy with Contrast, doctors compare the chemical composition of normal brain tissue with abnormal tumor tissue. It is also done to detect tissue changes in stroke and epilepsy.
You will be made to lie on a flat surface and will be injected with an IV through which contrast dye (gadolinium) will be passed into your arm. This will enhance the images of any tumor or lesion if present.
You need to observe fasting as instructed by the technologist before the test. You should inform your doctor beforehand if you had any surgery, metal implants or other metals in your body.
There is not much restriction after an MR Spectroscopy with contrast. You can continue your normal activities and diet. However, you should drink plenty of water and other fluids because it would help to flush out the contrast. Safe distance from children and ladies for at least 4-5 days is also important.
This test costs around Rs.8000-12000 Reach certified diagnostic centre like Ganesh Diagnostic as early as possible for best results.
