Isosporiasis is a parasitic infection. It is caused by the protozoan Isospora belli. It is primarily transmitted through the fecal-oral route, typically by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the feces of an infected person. Isosporiasis is more commonly seen in developing countries with poor sanitation and hygiene practices.
Symptoms of Isosporiasis can range from mild to severe and can include watery diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, and low-grade fever. These symptoms typically appear within 1-2 weeks after infection and can last for several days to a few weeks.
Diagnosis of Isosporiasis is made by examining a stool sample for the presence of the parasite under a microscope.
