Immune Deficiency Panel 2 to assess the status of cells (helper cells and suppressor cells) in immunodeficiency disorders. This helps in the managing the HIV infected patients. This test doesn’t diagnose and confirms the presence of HIV but it helps in knowing about the prognosis of the patients and the outcome of the ART (Anti-retroviral therapy).

The tests conducted under this panel are CD4 and CD8. CD4 counts the number of CD4 cells in the blood. Because a low count of CD4 cells indicates that the patient is HIV-infected. The increased count of CD4 and anti-retroviral treatment helps in reducing the risks or complications of the patients with HIV disease.

CD8 test is used to know the human immunodeficiency virus accuracy in the infected person. It aids the doctors in planning and accomplishing the treatment procedure.

When there is testing done for the antibody deficiency (in case of humoral immune function). Estimate of the standard screening tests for the humoral immune function starts with the measurement of the immunoglobulin (Ig), or the antibody, levels in ones blood. These also consist of the IgG, the IgA, the IgM, including IgE levels.

The Immunology sector begins to intersect with multiple areas of the biomedical science which is derived from any infectious diseases and the vaccination to the effective management and the treatment of the chronic diseases for example:

  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Asthma
  • Allergies

It Is seen that there is a CD3 - CD4 - CD8 count. This is a blood test which determines the activity of the immune system specifically in the immunocompromised people. This test is widely used and makes it a reliable cell surface immunoassay.

The Normal Ranges for an Adult:

  • IgG 6.0 - 16.0g/L
  • IgA 0.8 - 3.0g/L
  • IgM 0.4 - 2.5g/L

When you have certain numbers of the cells in bloodstream which are outside the reference range that indicates the immune system defect. Moreover, the blood tests would also be able to determine whether the immune system would respond properly and even produce the proteins that help in identifying and destroying foreign invaders, for example: bacteria or the viruses (antibodies).

The immunology test helps in determining the compatibility in any organ, the tissues, and with bone marrow transplantation. It should also be understood that it gets tested to determine the paternity, and to also diagnose the HLA-related disorders including certain autoimmune conditions.

In general the treatment of immune deficiency is by Stem cell transplantation

In general, the normal stem cells get transferred to any person with an immunodeficiency, which further results in the typically functioning immune system. It is seen that the stem cells could be harvested through ones bone marrow, or even obtained from the placenta at birth (called cord blood banking).
