HLA-B27 (PCR) Test Cost & Procedure

Describe HLA-B27:

Causes:

• Fever

Preparation:

Uses:

• Negative test results in no HLA-B27 being present in the blood.
• It's important to keep in mind that a negative test result does not automatically imply the presence of an autoimmune illness.
• On their white blood cells, persons with autoimmune diseases may lack HLA-B27.
• The presence of HLA-B27 in the blood, if the test results are positive, may be cause for alarm; however, the presence of the antigen does not invariably portend the development of an autoimmune illness.

Procedure:

• The HLA-B27 test is performed using a conventional blood draw, which typically entails using a tiny needle to draw blood from the patient's arm.
• When the blood is drawn, some patients may feel pain at the puncture site, and other patients may experience slight pain or throat pain at  the puncture site after the test.
• Blood is drawn into a tube and delivered to a lab for examination.
