The Histamine urine test is a test diet for estimating the amount of methyl histamine present in the body. Histamine is a secretion that the body produces in response to any allergies or infections. If a foreign substance enters the body of an individual the mast cells get activated as a part of the defence mechanism of the body itself. Mast cells are can be found everywhere in the body especially in the skin, the lining of the air passage, the intestine and bone marrow.

These mast cells are a storehouse of numerous chemicals and hormones such as tryptase and histamine, they release these into the blood to protect the body from the attack of any foreign substances thus creating allergic reactions in the body. Usually, the concentration of histamine in the blood is comparatively on the lower end, however, individuals who are prone to allergic reactions and ones who have been identified with a particular disease can witness a greater concentration of the same.

The activation of a considerable amount of mast cells is a clear indication of acute allergy medically termed anaphylaxis which is responsible for the development of skin reddening, blisters, fluctuations in blood pressure, constricted air passage and can even lead to death. This hypersecretion is further reflected in the urine and blood as histamine or N-methyhistamine.

Test Conduction

The test is conducted by collecting a blood sample from the veins in the arm. Urine is collected in 24 hours. It is essentially a complete urine sample for the 24 hours collected to properly examine and should be kept in a cool place. The Histamine panel is a device that examines the amount of histamine present in the blood or the collected urine from the patients. The histamine panel uses the blood sample or urine to identify the concentration of histamine. Elevated levels of tryptase or histamine generally indicate anaphylaxis and require further diagnosis.

Histamine levels at a concentrated level are an indication of other causes for the presence or the improper timing in sample collection. If the sample was collected at a proper time and the histamine levels are still below the elevation point it is less likely that the person has anaphylaxis or mastocytosis. The individual identified with such symptoms must further undergo tests for confirmation.

Conclusion

Anaphylaxis or mastocytosis can be very fatal and requires close monitoring of the patients. An epinephrine drug dose must be inoculated in the body at the earliest or may result in severe fatality. It is a serious condition that requires close examination and monitoring and actions must be taken at the earliest hour to avoid severe fatality.
