The hepatitis B virus leads to hepatic infection. It is a crucial problem for global health. It considerably raises the risk of cirrhosis and mortality from liver cancer, can result in persistent infection, and Hepatitis B virus transmission.

Structure

Hepatitis B infection is currently present if it is present in the blood. An enclosed virus has surface proteins that are distinct from the remainder of the virus and function as antigens. Antibody proteins that selectively attach to one of these surface proteins are able to recognise these antigens.

These antigen-proteins can now be produced genetically (for example, using transgenic E. coli) to create the raw material for a quick antigen test that finds the presence of HBV. Patients who produced antibodies against HBsAg are typically regarded as non-infectious (anti-HBsAg seroconversion). Immunoassay-based HBsAg detection is utilised in blood screening, clinical diagnosis of hepatitis B infection (in conjunction with other disease markers), and antiviral therapy monitoring.

HbsAg qualitative test

Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) in human serum and plasma can be detected qualitatively using the ARCHITECT HBsAg Qualitative assay, a chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay (CMIA).

Test Contains

A neutralising assay is used as recommended, at no additional cost, to confirm positive results.

  •  Without additional testing, samples with an index value over a predetermined threshold and positive outcomes for other hepatitis B markers are regarded as positive for hepatitis B surface antigen (neutralisation testing is not performed).
  • Samples with an index value above a predetermined threshold that have no further hepatitis B marker positive results or with an index value below a predetermined threshold that are positive are confirmed by neutralisation.

Special Requirements

There may be an interference in the test if patient is taking high amount of biotin supplement. All patients who might need this test should be advised to inquire about biotin supplementation. Patients should be advised to stop taking biotin at least 72 hours before a sample is taken.

Turnaround time anticipated: 1 to 2 days

Turnaround time- it is the average number of days from the time a specimen is picked up for testing until the ordering provider receives the test results. In rare circumstances, more time should be given for additional reflex testing or confirmation tests. Testing
