Geotrichosis

Geotrichosis is a rare fungal infection caused by the fungus Geotrichum species. Geotrichum species are ubiquitous, saprophytic fungi that are commonly found in the environment, such as in soil, water, and decaying organic matter. They can also be found as part of the normal microbiota in the human gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, and skin, without causing any harm. However, in certain circumstances, Geotrichum species can cause infection, particularly in individuals with weakened immune systems or underlying health conditions.

Geotrichosis can manifest in different forms, depending on the site of infection. The most common forms of geotrichosis include:
