How does one prepare for the test?

• A spinal needle is inserted.
• Pressure is sometimes taken. A high or low blood pressure can indicate an infection.
• A sample of 1 to 10 mL of CSF is collected in 4 vials once the needle is positioned.
• The needle is removed, cleaned, and covered with a bandage. After the exam, you may be instructed to lie down for a while.
