What is the Factor V Functional Test?

The Factor V test is used to measure the levels of Coagulation Factor V in the blood and determine if they have increased or decreased. These coagulation factors determine whether blood clots normally, and abnormally high levels indicate blood clotting problems.

A bleeding disease called factor V deficiency is extremely rare. This condition's symptoms can appear at any age, but most severe cases appear in childhood. Deficiency of Factor V causes nosebleeds, easy bruising, skin bleeding, gum bleeding, and prolonged or severe bleeding after surgery, trauma, or childbirth. Bleeding problems in women with factor V insufficiency (menorrhagia). Hemarthrosis (bleeding into joint spaces) is rare. Severe cases can result in life-threatening cerebral, pulmonary, or gastrointestinal bleeding.

This test is done to detect or diagnose:
