• >7.3 units of pH
•  >15.0 mmol/L of bicarbonate
• 0.6 mmol/L of ketone bodies in the blood

The FRIII rate should be raised if these objectives are not met. It is frequently required to administer intravenous 10% dextrose to prevent hypoglycaemia and allow ongoing FRIII to inhibit ketogenesis because eliminating ketones is as crucial as bringing blood sugar levels back to normal.
