Chloride Fluid

This test determines how much chloride is present in the urine. It is an electrolyte that aids in regulating fluid intake and the maintenance of the body's pH. Chloride levels in urine should be between 20 and 40 mmol/L.

Low chloride levels can be caused by heart failure, lung failure, Addison's disease, Cushing syndrome, decreased salt intake, and excessive body fluid loss. In contrast, high levels can be caused by adrenal gland dysfunction, kidney inflammation, alkalosis, potassium depletion or polyuria, and excessive salt intake.
