In this blog, I mentioned A Date that is the 28th of September shows World Rabies Day: “To raise awareness about rabies prevention”. Rabies is a viral Zoonotic disease and vaccines control it and main target to Central Nervous System (Brain and Spinal Cord). Rabies' genetic material is negative-stranded RNA (Ribonucleic acid). According to a survey report Rabies has globally infected 59000 worldwide. Most cases of Rabies were reported from Children (5 to 14 age group).
Mode of Transmission: it occurs in wild animals e.g. bats, raccoons, skunks, foxes, dogs all mammals (warm-blooded animals with fur/hair), etc.
Note: Pet/Livestock animals also get rabies if they do not take rabies vaccination up to date and also from interaction with wildlife.
There are two categories of Rabies Infection:
- Furious Rabies: Shows some indications like hyperactivity, Hydrophobia, Aerophobia, and hallucination.
- Paralytic Rabies: 20% of human cases have reported paralysis and coma.
