Treatment and Management

The appendicitis is known to be an alarming medical emergency. It is quite likely that an appendix would burst, resulting in a serious, and deadly infection.

For this particular reason, in almost all situations, the healthcare professional would advise that you could have surgery in order to remove the appendix.

The two removal methods are as follows:

  • Open (traditional) surgery method
  • Laparoscopic method

If the appendix has not burst yet, then the recovery process from an appendectomy would only take a few days. If the appendix has any severe pain.

The pain medications (for example-morphine) would not appear to affect any accuracy of clinical diagnosis of your appendicitis and therefore in this case, should be given quite early in patient's care.

Complications

The Appendicitis could cause many serious complications, which are as follows::

  • Burst appendix. A burst appendix would also be called as a ruptured appendix that would spread the infection throughout the patient’s abdomen, it is a condition called - Peritonitis.
  • It is possible that it becomes a life-threatening disease, and this condition would require an immediate surgery to remove the appendix and then it becomes important to clean your abdominal cavity.
  • There will be a pocket of pus that would form in your abdomen.
