Beta-2 glycoprotein is an autoantibody associated with abnormal clotting. Beta-2 glycoprotein 1 IGM is an ELISA test used for diagnosis of anti- phospholipid syndrome. The autoantibodies target the phospholipids layer. It is present on the outermost layer of cell membrane and platelets.

• > or = 80.0 U/ml - strongly positive

Strongly positive results are diagnostic criteria for ANTI- phospholipid syndrome.

Lesser levels of beta-2 glycoprotein 1 IGM antibodies may be present in patients with clinical signs of APS.

It is not considered diagnostic.

If the test is positive it indicates APS aa it is commonly associated with this. But after 12 weeks the test is done again to fulfil diagnostic criteria of APS.
