Bartonellosis

Bartonellosis, also known as cat scratch disease or cat scratch fever, is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria of the genus Bartonella. It is typically transmitted to humans through scratches or bites from infected cats, although other animals, such as dogs, fleas, and ticks, can also transmit the bacteria.

Symptoms of bartonellosis can vary widely, but commonly include a raised bump or blister at the site of infection, along with flu-like symptoms such as fever, fatigue, headache, and swollen lymph nodes. In some cases, bartonellosis can also cause more severe complications such as neurologic or ocular manifestations.

Diagnosis of bartonellosis is typically based on clinical symptoms and a history of exposure to cats or other potential sources of infection. Laboratory tests, such as serological testing or polymerase chain reaction (PCR), may also be used to confirm the presence of Bartonella bacteria in the body.
