An enzyme-linked to mucopolysaccharidosis VI is called arylsulfatase B (also known as N-acetylgalactosamine-4-sulfatase, chondroitin sulfatase, acetylgalactosamine 4-sulfatase, and N-acetylgalactosamine 4-sulfate phosphohydrolase) (Maroteaux–Lamy syndrome).

Why is this advised?

The tri potassium phenolphthalein disulfate substrate is attacked by the arylsulfatase enzyme, which is produced by different Mycobacterium species. The medium turns red as a result of the reaction that releases phenolphthalein.
