Antibody To SS-A/Ro

SS (Sjogren Syndrome) -A (Ro) is a blood test used to diagnose Sjogren Syndrome (an autoimmune disease characterized by dry mouth and dry eyes). Extractable nuclear antigen (SS-A) (ENA). Antibodies against ENA are identified in 60-90 percent of Sjogren Syndrome patients, 40-60 percent of SLE patients, and rheumatoid arthritis patients.

A negative test is 1.0 U, and a positive test is 1.0 U. A positive result is Inflammatory disorders of the connective tissue. A positive result in pregnant mothers with LE increases the likelihood of neonatal congenital heart block. A positive SS-A (Ro) test result is spotted on UV immunofluorescence.

Why done? 

Anti SSA (RO) IgG (ELISA) testing is used to assess patients who have symptoms of connective tissue diseases. Also, the test must be done in patients suspected of having Sjogren's Syndrome. Congenital heart obstruction, vasculitis, nephritis, leukopenia, lymphadenopathy, rheumatoid factor positive, neonatal lupus, interstitial lung disease, palpable purpura/cutaneous vasculitis, subacute cutaneous lupus, or photosensitivity are all indicators of such health problems.
