Doctors have used this test as a second-line diagnostic test for Antiphosphatidylserine antibodies, which ultimately indicates Antiphospholipid Syndrome. If diagnosed in an initial phase, it aids in the prevention of further thrombotic complications.

What do you mean by Phosphatidylserine Antibody IgG?

This antibody helps in the detection of phospholipid syndrome. Arterial and venous thrombotic problems and thrombocytopenia are mainly due to these antibodies.

What is Antiphospholipid Syndrome?

Antibodies are developed by the immune system, which helps to fight against infection. But in extreme conditions, these antibodies start attacking the natural body's healthy tissue. Phospholipid syndrome is one of those conditions in which antibodies attack the normal tissues and cause blockage of arteries and veins for stasis of blood.

This condition can cause blood clots in any body part, like the lungs, legs, and other organs.

Ultimately, clotting of blood and blockage can result in heart attacks and even deaths.

Signs and Symptoms-

  • Swelling
  • Pain
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • High blood pressure
  • stillbirths
  • Stroke
  • Red Rashes

It can also cause neurological symptoms -

  • Cluster headaches
  • Dementia
  • Migraines
  • Epilepsy

It may also cause cardiovascular diseases-

  • Low blood level
  • Decrease in blood cells
  • Prolonged bleeding

Risk factors-

This syndrome is more commonly seen in women. It is exaggerated if any other autoimmune condition is present.

This disease is seen more in patients who are -

  • smoking
  • Excess resting
  • undergone surgery
  • bedridden patients

What's Elisa?

ELISA stands for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and is used to detect and measure antibodies, proteins, and hormones of the body's immune system that produces antibodies to fight against infection.

Types Of Elisa

ELISA tests can be divided into three types depending upon the different styles used for binding between antigens and antibodies-

Indirect ELISA – Antigen is  carpeted to the microtiter well

Sandwich ELISA – Antibody is  carpeted on the microtiter well

Competitive ELISA – Microtiter well, which is antigen-carpeted, is filled with the antigen-antibody admixture.

The procedure of Elisa -

It is one of the most accessible blood tests that can be carried out. It's rapid-fire, quick, and the case's blood sample. An alternate antibody specific to the primary antibody is added,  generally conjugated with an enzyme.  Eventually, the substrate is added. The enzyme converts the substrate to form a  multicolored , which a spectrophotometer can measure.

Sample collection of his test-

A blood sample is required. Needles are inserted in the patient's arm to withdraw blood and then sent to the lab for examination.
