Anti HCV (Elisa)

The Anti-HCV antibodies blood test is often the first – and only – one you'll need. In this enzyme-linked immunosorbent test (ELISA), antibodies to the hepatitis C virus are detected in human serum or plasma. Why done? 

• Post-transfusion hepatitis is most commonly caused by HCV. It is discovered that the patient has HCV antibodies six months after the commencement of the infection, during the late convalescent stage. 
• The test determines if a patient's HCV is resolved or chronic.
• It is used to screen blood donors and diagnose hepatitis C patients.
