Angiostrongylus - Book Test at Low Cost

Angiostrongylus is a genus of parasitic nematode worms, commonly known as lungworms, that can infect animals and humans. The most well-known species in this genus is Angiostrongylus cantonensis, which causes a disease known as angiostrongyliasis or rat lungworm disease.

The most common symptoms of angiostrongylus in humans include severe headache, neck stiffness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and neurological manifestations such as tingling or numbness in the extremities, difficulty coordinating movements, and even paralysis.  But in the case of severe conditions, it can lead to meningitis, encephalitis, or other serious complications.

Diagnosis of angiostrongyliasis typically involves a combination of clinical symptoms, travel history to endemic areas, and laboratory tests, such as examination of cerebrospinal fluid for the presence of larvae or antibodies against Angiostrongylus cantonensis.
