What is an X-ray Parotid Test?

The X-ray Parotid Test gives a clear picture of the salivary gland. The test assesses the parotid gland mass, which demonstrates tumor extension, tumor shape, signal characteristics, and the tumor's relationship to the facial nerve.

Why is it done? 

• Diagnose parotitis, mumps, or salivary stones.
• To identify calculi or compression-caused salivary duct obstruction.
• To find a tumor/cyst (extra growth of salivary glands)
• To diagnose bulimia owing to parotid edema, obstruction, or irritation.

What is the procedure for the parotid radiograph test?

The X-Ray technician will explain. 

How does one prepare for the test? 

• Wear loose-fitting clothing. No preparation is needed.
• If you are pregnant, notify your technician, as radiation may harm the baby.
