What is an X-ray Orbit Test?

Orbital X-rays, also called orbital radiography, look at the structures and area around the eye. The orbit is the circle of thin bones that protects the eye. 

Why is it done? 

The ORBIT Test can help find fractures in the eye structures caused by injury or illness. It can help find broken bones in the area caused by injury or illness. It is also often used to find foreign objects in the eye that an ophthalmoscope can't see. It's often administered before an MRI when ocular metal particles might cause injury.

  • Wear loose-fitting clothing. No preparation is needed.
  • If you are pregnant, notify your technician, as radiation may harm the baby.

Preparation
  • Remove the object that contains Metal, such as Jewellery, Hair Clips, Watches, Rings, or any other similar object from scanning part of the body, so as to avoid a bright or blank spot on the diagnostic film.
  • You must inform the technologist, radiology nurse, and/or physician if you have allergies, are pregnant, breastfeeding, or are on medication.
  • Minimum 4 hours fasting required.
